Overview
The Sikkim Silk Route is a historic trade path through the Eastern Himalayas of Sikkim, India, considered an offshoot of the ancient Silk Road connecting Lhasa, Tibet to the port of Tamralipta (present-day Tamluk in West Bengal). This route winds through high altitude passes like Nathula Pass, crossing the Chumbi Valley, and offers stunning views of snow-capped peaks and alpine landscapes. Due to its challenging terrain and harsh weather conditions, this part of the Silk Route was less traveled but remains a significant historical route for trade and cultural exchange.
